2024 EnPleinAirTEXAS Invitational Ranch Fellowship Artists

We were pleased to announce the four talented artists who were selected for the 2024 EnPleinAirTEXAS Ranch Fellowship at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

Here is what they had to say about their experience as the first Ranch Fellows for SAMFA.

Carla Bosch

100%

"EPAT has always been one of my favorite events, but I did not anticipate the absolute joy of experiencing the people and surrounding area of San Angelo for three full weeks. It was, at least thus far, my most fun plein air experience ever. Spending three weeks in the field without the pressures of competition or time constraints was just so refreshing. The Ranch Fellowship model allows the artist to really connect with both the people and the environment, and both of these connections will impact your art in a meaningful way. I would love to be back!”

- Carla Bosch

Katie Dobson Cundiff

Liz Bonham

"Being able to stay next to the areas we painted gave us an irreplaceable experience which lead us to create unforgettable paintings."

- Liz Bonham

Suzie Baker

“I’m deeply honored to have been among the first artists invited to the San Angelo Museum of Art Ranch Fellowship in 2024!

To my fellow artists, if you have the chance, don’t miss this experience! It’s an incredible opportunity to step away from the daily grind, paint at your own pace, and immerse yourself in breathtaking landscapes alongside people who have a deep love for their land.

The warmth and generosity of our rancher hosts, the exclusive access to stunning private views, the incredible hospitality, the unforgettable meals, and the culminating exhibition all made this the highlight of my year!”

- Suzie Baker

Liz Bonham and Katie Dobson-Cundiff will be hosted at the Carolina Ranch by Malinda and Jamie Huffman, from June 9th to June 30th.

Suzie Baker and Carla Bosch will be hosted at the Field Ranch by Jennifer and Tim Crutchfield from September 1st to the 21st.

During their fellowships, SAMFA will host two exhibitions of the artists’ studio works at its satellite Gallery Verde. The exhibition openings will occur on June 14th and September 6th, 2024.

Each of the artists will offer a painting workshop at the Museum during their stay. The full-day workshops will be held during the second and third weeks of the artists’ fellowships.

In SAMFA’s traditional October EnPleinAirTEXAS weekend, the artists will participate in a paint-out at the Chicken Farm and have their artworks, painted during their fellowship, exhibited at Fort Concho’s Stables.

Artists will participate in an appreciation event with EnPleinAirTEXAS event sponsors and a celebration at the end of the Art Sale.

We can’t wait to welcome Carla, Katie, Liz, and Suzie!

We are so grateful to our EPAT sponsors, without whom the fellowships would not be possible.

Hello EnPleinAirTEXAS Artists!

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is excited to announce its first EnPleinAirTEXAS Ranch Fellowship Program, an immersive experience in the authentic ranch culture of West Texas. In the inaugural year 2024, four of our amazing past EPAT artists will be invited to participate.

  • Paint anywhere in the area, including the Mims Ranch, owned by Libby & Joe Mims.
  • Experience sharing daily ranch life with a fellow artist. Two artists will stay at each ranch at the same time, sharing a house with separate bedrooms and bathrooms.
  • Choose any three consecutive weeks between June 1st and October 26th according to your and your housemate’s availability.
  • Bring your spouse or significant other along with you to enjoy West Texas.
  • Receive a $1,000 Ranch Fellowship stipend.
  • Have your works curated into an exhibition of works for sale.
  • Meet new collectors and reconnect with past patrons.
  • Share your talent and experience facilitating a painting workshop.
  • Give back to the San Angelo community teaching at local schools.

Artists Reciprocity Commitments:

  • Create ten ranch Plein Air paintings for an exhibit show benefiting the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, with shared revenue of 60/40 favoring the artist.
  • Gift your host with one of your paintings.
  • Teach a two- to three-day workshop at the Museum, benefiting its educational programs.
  • Participate in a day of art engagement and teaching with local school children of the SAISD.
  • Attend the EPAT Ranch Fellowship celebration and art sale Oct. 24 – 26th.

In recognition of your contributions as an EPAT artist to San Angelo’s national standing in the arts, you are the first to hear the news and details of this new fellowship program. With this Ranch Fellowship, we honor EnPleinAirTEXAS’s role in our city’s 10-year designation as the ‘Visual Arts Capital of Texas’.

Please consider how your willingness to work with students in the past has opened doors to growing the Museum’s fine art curriculum in our public schools Your participation in this fellowship will continue this tradition.

We recognize the enthusiasm and work EPAT founders Barbara Rallo, and Treva Boyd has poured into making EPAT the success it is. As their parting gift, Barbara and Treva conceptualized and initiated the planning for this new Ranch Fellowship Program. We hope you can join us in October as we celebrate their retirement and the success of the new fellowship.

We thank Malinda, Jamie Huffman, Jennifer, and Tim Crutchfield for generously opening their ranches for this exciting Ranch Fellowship.

We are always happy to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Tina Bean & Lori Francks
